Sea to shining sea, I have seen a lot of places where people are nice to me. One place that holds a special place in my heart is my hometown. It is nestled in the sand hills on a river called Cape Fear. It is special to so many, especially those who have proudly served our country. It was named for Lafayette and is known for its cotton mills. I am talking about my hometown, Fayetteville. I am so proud to be from here. It doesn't take long to realize how much you miss home when you're away. It's always good to come back. Babe Ruth hit his first home run here, a moment heard around the world. During the Civil War, General Sherman marched through and burned the Arsenal Old Market House. However, Fayetteville stands for freedom. It is my hometown, my all-American city. Now, let's move on to the February 13th City Council meeting in Fayetteville. The meeting is called to order and everyone is thanked for their presence. The invocation is led by Councilman Wade Fowler, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Scout Troop 747 from St. James Lutheran Church. The council prays for wisdom as they make important decisions for the city. They hope to consider the needs of the citizens they serve. They also pray that the citizens, as neighbors, will treat each other with respect and serve one another out of love. They want all actions taken to be helpful to the city and bring glory to God. After the prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance is recited, paying tribute to the United States of America, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
